BLOOMING-all levels

3D & Folded Flower Runner
I designed this runner to teach a sampling of different 3D, folded flowers and leaf techniques.  Pre-class handouts will instruct the students on the preparation of the runner background/border.  Several techniques for bias stems and freezer paper appliqué will be taught, including a tip for making the pointy ends of swirling designs actually pointy.  Both hand and machine appliqué will be demonstrated.  Students will construct a few of each flower in the pattern, which will be added to the runner after quilting.  Quilting and embellishment ideas will be discussed.

Teacher:Carol Seeley

WOVEN ILLUSIONS-all levels

This class will start with basic colour theory.  I will show how proper placement of different values can result in the creation of 3-dimensional effects and light source luminosity.  You can create your version of my Woven Illusions or create an entirely original design.
Teacher:Carol Seeley

SHADOW APPLIQUÉ-all levels

Shadow appliqué is the perfect technique for creating a soft subtle effect.  Learn Carol's new no sew method for creating subtle design elements as she used in her "Generations'quilt, an award winner in Quilt Canada 2008.  A kit will be provided with all fabric required to make a small floral piece suitable as a wall hanging or a block in a larger quilt.  This technique may be used to create an entire quilt or used to create a subtle design in the background behind a main focal point.  It's hard to find that really light fabric with just a hint of colour.  This method will eliminate that search.
Kit Fee: $18.00

BEYOND BABY BLOCKS

For all those quilters that are amazed by the ability of a quilt fo appear 3-dimensional, whether it is a simple baby block, one of the oldest isometric quilt pattern or a more intricate variation.  The morning of day 1 will consist of simple drawing exercises on special graph paper.  Each student will be led step by step through the process.  In the afternoon, the student will draw the design of their choice, being as simple or intricate as they wish.  During day 2, the student will make templates of the necessary pieces, cut fabric and begin to plan and build their quilt top.   Construction may also be done by hand.
Teacher: Carol Seeley

WHAT NOTS!!

Small Experimental Art Quilts (sample quilt is 8"X10")
Let yourself loose.  Enjoy these 2 fun filled days as Carol guides you through the process starting with a line drawing, either geometric or abstract.  Then, select fabrics from the traditional quilting cottons to felts, wools, leather, any interesting piece of fabric or even non fabrics items such as small gauge mesh and paper.  After construction using any approriate/necessary method the fun reallly begins.  Each "What Not" is not complete until it is embellished with beads, yarns, ribbons, buttons, jewelry, net, cheeseclosth, etc, etc,,.  Anything goes!! When you get hooked on these small quilts your stash takes on a whole new look.
Teacher:  Carol Seeley

SECONDARY DESIGNS

This class will be a study of traditional quilt block designs and the secondary designs created by repeating and placing these traditional blocks in unique layouts.  With the aid of a hinged mirror and a Xerox machine the students will take traditional  time honoured blocks of their choice and create an original quilt design on paper.  During day two the students will cut fabric and with the use of a  flannel design board begin to create their quilt top.

JOURNEY INTO 3 DIMENSIONNAL QUILTING WORLD

Special 2 day class on my last 3 dimension project.  During this class I will talk and explain the way I have thought and assembled this big piece, from the idea to the shipping to a quilt show.  I will demonstrate my "bark tree" technique, my "see through" technique, how to plan to draw a 3D scene and make the perspective works.  I have documented every step with pictures and will be able to show pictures.  The participants will also build a small scale model from my original drawing printed on fabric and be able to experiment themselves all the steps to realise such a quilt.
